Happy Travelers Tuesday! If you are new around here, Travelers Tuesday is a series we love where we proudly introduce our readers to a variety of adventurous families who travel full-time. This week, we are excited to be bringing you the Grimsley family originally from Lake Havasu, Arizona!
Meet the family: The Grimsleys are an adorable family of three who travel full-time while homeschooling. Their son, who is 9-years-old, loves science which works out great since his mom’s favorite subjects to teach are physical science, astronomy, and Norse Mythology. As with our family, experiences are one of their favorite teaching methods but they also utilize Time4Learning.
What got you and your family interested in living this lifestyle? We knew we didn’t want to live in Arizona, but we weren’t sure where our forever home would be. So, my husband suggested buying an RV and traveling around the US to the states we thought might fit our family. We’re nearing our one year anniversary and haven’t done much house hunting! We’re enjoying the experience far more than we expected!
Was getting on the road easy or challenging? Any advice to those just starting out? It was easy for us, but my husband is a disabled veteran, so we didn’t have finances to worry about. I don’t have advice except to say, relax and be flexible. There’s a lot that happens that isn’t expected and it’s easy to get frustrated. You just have to be ready for anything!
What are your favorite or least favorite things about traveling full-time? Our favorite thing is having the freedom to go where we want, when we want TOGETHER! Least favorite would be when the weather is bad and we’re stuck inside.
What are your travel goals? To live and enjoy each other! Someday we’ll find a place to create our homestead.
How many states have you visited and/or countries have you visited so far? As a family, we haven’t left the country. Since launching we’ve visited 15 states. We like to move slowly.
What has been your favorite and/or least favorite trip, site, experience so far? Our favorite place would have to be the White Sands National Park in New Mexico. We had an amazing time there! We also swam with manatees in Florida and that was a once in a lifetime experience! I don’t think we’ve had a least favorite!
What got you started in blogging? Our son is adopted and we went through the process while my husband was deployed to Iraq (Army). I started blogging during that time to share our experiences and to keep our family informed as well as to have a place that we’d be able to go and remember. Now, we blog to share our traveling experiences.
What are your goals for your website? Simply to connect with other families and share our journey.
What is your favorite thing to write about? Anything that catches my passion. I try to mainly write about what we’re doing because I’m not confident that some of my passions would be interesting! I would like to write more about how my husband’s PTSD is affected by our traveling life. We’re also a Pagan family and I’d like to write more about that, but again, not sure if it’s something that would turn readers off.
Getting a little more personal: What is your favorite book? My favorite all-time book is called Dies the Fire. What is your favorite season? Each season has something I absolutely love. There is no way to pick just one! What is your favorite food? Is there something you love that you’ve found somewhere but you can’t easily find elsewhere? Beignets! Maybe not our favorite food, but something we loved and can only find in Louisiana! Is there anything else you would like for me to share? I think I’d like people to know that full-time families and families who travel are normal people. We just happen to have decided to live in a rolling home!
