Happy National Lineman Appreciation Day! All across the industry, Line Workers and their supporters have been celebrating on various days each year based on significant events within the trade. On April 10, 2013 government officials signed into existence Resolution 95 finally establishing the recognition so many have fought for.

I am very grateful for all of the hard work my husband puts into providing for our family. The lifestyle may be hard at times but we are taken care of and he has a career he is passionate about. The distance, the sacrifices, and the constant thought of “I miss you” is worth knowing he is truly happy in what he does. Going on the road is one of the biggest adventures we could have ever dreamed of and it has become a reality!

National Lineman Appreciation Day
Learning to climb!

On top of our family’s security and his love of the trade there is also the millions of people that are affected daily by line work. Every time we flip a switch, run hot water, charge our phones, or watch the news it is because Linemen did their jobs. In the dead of winter when the storms rage on, Linemen are out there working hard. During storms most Linemen are hours from home working 16-18 hours a day for 7 days a week until everyone’s power is restored. This can take weeks or in worst case scenarios even months. Their normal 60-80 hour weeks become habit and missed holidays (while they never get easier) become expected. Want a good rain storm? Just ask a LineWife to plan a weekend getaway. 😉

These men and women are there, day in and day out, keeping you turned on. Let’s show them some respect and appreciation not only on their big day but every day!

To all of the Linemen and Linewomen out there, THANK YOU!!

Recognizing linemen, the profession of linemen, the contributions of these brave men and women who protect public safety, and expressing support for the designation of April 18, 2013, as National Lineman Appreciation Day.
IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES
April 10, 2013
Mr. ISAKSON (for himself and Mr. BENNET) submitted the following resolution; which was considered and agreed to

RESOLUTION

Recognizing linemen, the profession of linemen, the contributions of these brave men and women who protect public safety, and expressing support for the designation of April 18, 2013, as National Lineman Appreciation Day.

Whereas the profession of linemen is steeped in personal, family, and professional tradition;

Whereas linemen are often first responders during storms and other catastrophic events, working to make the scene safe for other public safety heroes;

Whereas linemen work with thousands of volts of electricity high atop power lines 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to keep electricity flowing;

Whereas linemen must often work under dangerous conditions far from their families to construct and maintain the energy infrastructure of the United States;

Whereas linemen put their lives on the line every day with little recognition from the community regarding the danger of their work; and

Whereas April 18, 2013, would be an appropriate date to designate as National Lineman Appreciation Day: Now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the Senate–
(1) recognizes the efforts of linemen in keeping the power on and protecting public safety; and
(2) supports the designation of April 18, 2013, as National Lineman Appreciation Day.
