Today marks the final day of July for this year and that means August is so close we can almost smell it. What does it smell like? Well, to me, August smells like fresh coffee, office supplies and newly printed books. *swoon* Summer is winding down, schools are getting organized, and millions of families are preparing for the upcoming school year. Last year, we participated in Mommy the Zookeeper’s 100 Books in August and we loved it so much that we have decided to make it an annual tradition! Over on her site you can find more about how they have theirs set up and also the file to print out the adorable sticker chart featured below. Here are some guidelines we have created to fit our family, school lessons, and Aryanna’s reading level.
*All posts on our site may contain affiliate links which help support our family.*
- When Aryanna successfully reads 2 early reader phonics books then it will count as one book. Our sets include The Berenstain Bears, Bob Books, Little Critter, and Biscuit.
- When Aryanna successfully reads any of our other early reader books out loud to us then each will count as a book.
- All of our story themed school books will count as one book each but our text books will not be included.
- When reading chapter books aloud together, each chapter will count as one book. Needing some ideas for chapter books to share together? Check out my post 25 Chapter Book Series for Children. It is a great list full of books that you can either read to your younger children or that your older children can enjoy on their own. Even some classics!
We would love to have you join us on this adventure through 100 books in August and invite you to share your photos on Facebook (The Vetetoe Family & Mommy the Zookeeper) or on Instagram (The Vetetoe Family & Mommy the Zookeeper). Include #100BooksInAugust and @the.vetetoe.family on your photos for a chance to be featured on The Vetetoe Family’s pages! (Please remember that including @the.vetetoe.family on Instagram will be considered granting permission to share. Without that, I will not share the hashtagged photos.)
